On May 3, 2023, European Wound Management Association (EWMA) unfolded its 33^rd annual conference at the Allianz Mico Exhibition Center in Milan, Italy, under the theme Wound Management – From Art to Science. The participation of 5006 registered participants from 96 countries is a stark signal that EWMA is becoming more and more influential globally.

Sebastian Probst, EWMA President, made the opening speech hoping the participants could boost communication and cooperation. In the big picture, he stressed that EWMA will align with the 17 sustainable development goals of the United Nations, to address the current major challenges in wound management.

Following the opening ceremony came the keynote speech by Dr. Robert Kirsner from the University of Miami. He walked us through a set of valuable updates on wound infection. It is worth mentioning that Dr. Kirsner was the speaker of the Rongxiang Xu keynote lecture in the International Diabetic Lower Extremity Symposium hosted by the International Society of Regenerative Medicine and Wound Repair.

 
The 3-day EWMA conference created many opportunities to enable the improvement of wound management on a global scale.
