The 5th Regenerative Medicine Forum of ISRMWR Held Virtually

The 5th Regenerative Medicine Forum of the International Society of Regenerative Medicine and Wound Repair (ISRMWR) , co-hosted by the ISRMWR and the California State Assembly, was held online in the morning of February 22nd, Western Time. With the theme of “Activating the Boundless Potential that Lies Within Each of Us”, this virtual forum created a platform for stakeholders from public policy, academia, and nonprofits to get together and create long-lasting impact both on regenerative life science and the betterment of the whole world.

Moderated by California State Assembly member Phillip Chen, this forum began with two opening remarks, delivered respectively by Mr. Anthony Rendon, Speaker of California State Assembly, and Mr. Kevin Xu, President of ISRMWR and CEO of MEBO International. Speaker Rendon acknowledged that with misplaced skepticism of specific scientific fact on the rise, public belief in science is an incredibly timely topic, and it is critical to restore our belief in the scientific process to advance new medicines, new technologies, and environmental science. Mr. Xu explained that the Regenerative Medicine Forum was originated to commemorate Dr. Rongxiang Xu, founder of Human Body Regenerative Restoration Science and a scientist dedicated to improve human well-beings around the world. He pointed out that, carrying on Dr. Rongxiang Xu’s legacy, the Day of Regenerative Medicine and this forum provide a platform where people with diverse background can communicate, understand and collaborate for the betterment of humanity.

After 5 years of development, the Regenerative Medicine Forum has become an influential platform not only for doctors and nurses in the field of regenerative medicine, but also people in academia, nonprofit and public policy around the world. This year, the forum has the most diversified speaker lineup and provides policy makers the most straightforward and frontline understanding for better collaborations.

Dr. Lars F. Berglund, Professor of Medicine, Vice Dean for Research at UC Davis School of Medicine, was the first speaker. Dr. Berglund reflected his own experience as a foreign scholar in the United States, pointed out the importance of open environment for scientific progress and innovation, and suggested important states like California to take the lead and strategize the future of foreign workforce. The second speaker, Dr. Raul J Guzman, Professor of Surgery, Surgeon-in-Chief, Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy at Yale School of Medicine, used live examples to demonstrate the application of regenerative therapy to improve public health. Focused specifically on regenerative therapy for diabetic foot disease, Dr. Guzman introduced how the therapy helps recreate the path of pathophysiological changes and decrease the wound area more rapidly. Dr. Bhasi Nair, Senior Researcher at the University of Cambridge, Director of Data Science of EquiTech Futures, emphasized the importance of data science and artificial intelligence in tackling the biggest problems facing the world, and introduced the work EquiTech Futures has been doing to identify future innovators and give them the tools, networks and perspectives to thrive. Last but not least, Ms. Rachel Wood, Director of Advancement and Engagement, North America at the Rhodes Trust, University of Oxford, introduced the Rhodes Scholarship program and the efforts the Rhodes Trust has put to build up an interconnected community to solve some of the world’s most pressing issues, either through the Rhodes Global Forum, or the Kevin Xu Initiative on Science, Technology, and Society.

With support from the California State Assembly, and renowned scholars from different areas around the world, the forum delves into the most pressing issues our society and the world face today, such as the international flow of talent, the inclusiveness of education, science and technology, and proposed meaningful suggestions to establish an interconnected community incorporating the world of academia, politics, science and technology for a better world.

ISRMWR was formally established on Feb. 27, 2018 (local time) in the State Capitol of California, Sacramento of the United States, and it is an American based borderless platform for medical professionals, doctors, researchers, and other sectors dedicating to the development and promotion of regenerative medicine to find out the future of it.

Since its establishment five years ago, ISRMWR has been committed to bringing together legislation, administration, academia and industry in regenerative medicine and taking regenerative medicine to new heights through international academic exchanges. Its academic footprint covers China, the United States, South Korea, Greece, Ukraine, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines and many other countries and regions.
