Malaysian Delegation’s Academic Exchange in Hunan，China Concludes with Great Success

From July 28–29, 2026, ISRMWR hosted eight Malaysian wound repair and plastic surgery experts from Kuala Lumpur, Kemaman, and Sungai Buloh hospitals for a two‑day academic exchange and clinical observation program in Hunan, China. The visit focused on cutting-edge advances in regenerative medicine and wound repair, aiming to deepen the cooperation between China and Malaysia in healthcare and promote mutual improvement in burn reconstruction and wound management.
First Stop – Third Xiangya Hospital
Dr. Peng Hao, Director of the Department of Burns and Plastic Surgery, extended a warm welcome and provided a overview of the history, talent team, and core technical expertise of the department and gave a special lecture on surgical wound repair. Dr. Mohd Shahrul Bin Suondoh, a plastic surgeon from Kuala Lumpur Hospital, shared clinical experiences in burn wounds management in both adults and children. Then, the two parties engaged in in-depth discussions on core topics such as microskin grafting techniques and management of chronic wounds. After the meeting, the delegation visited the burn ward and observed standardized wound management procedures.
Second Stop – the Second Affiliated Hospital of Hunan University of Chinese Medicine
Dean Liu Chunhua delivered a welcome address and expressed the hope of deepen mutual learning between China and Malaysia in wound repair. Dr. Tian Yi, Deputy Director of the Wound Center, introduced the department, and Dr. Hou Yujie shared a case of successful treatment of a grade 4 diabetic foot ulcer complicated by ketoacidosis. Dr. Audrey Teo Ju Yeng from Malaysia presented wound care service models in remote areas of Sarawak state and shared two cases in complex wounds management. Following the sessions, the delegation visited the wound repair ward and observed dressing change procedures.
Third Stop – Zhuzhou People’s Hospital
Party Secretary Ding Jianhua gave a welcoming speech. Dr. He Xuliang, Director of General Surgery, chaired the academic exchange meeting and introduced the department. Dr. Yao Ting presented clinical experiences in regenerative medical technology. Dr. Muhammad Taufiq Khalila Bin Razali, Head of the Wound Care Department at Kemaman Hospital, delivered the “Application of Regenerative Medicine Technology in Circumcision” report. Dr. Gerald Sim Lai Meng, a plastic surgery specialist from Singai Health Clinic, shared a case of accelerated healing of forearm wound through physiological regeneration, which gained strong interest and lively discussion among the participants.
By the end of the visit, the Malaysian delegation expressed sincere gratitude to the three hospitals for their arrangements and sharing. The delegation said their trip to Hunan was highly rewarding, not only the systematical learning of the core protocols and operational details of regenerative medical techniques, but also the innovative application of integrated Chinese-Western medicine in wound repair. They expressed hope to integrate these experiences into their own clinical practice and to promote continued exchanges and deeper cooperation between China and Malaysia in regenerative medicine.
This visit successfully built a bridge of communication between China and Malaysia in wound repair and regenerative medicine and laid a solid foundation for future collaboration in talent development, technology translation, and joint research. It also injected new vitality into the development of high-quality global wound care standards.
